This safety test determines the amount of residual solvents left after production.
Sample Sizes Required
Beverages, Chocolate, Syrup, Candy
Capsules, Oil, Tablets, Honey
Topicals, Trim, Tinctures
Cartridge, CO2 Extract, Crystalline
Distillate, Kief, Extract
Scope of Test
SolventsHeptanes, Hexanes, Butanes, Benzene, Tolulene, Total Xylenes, Propanes, Ethanol
Testing MethodHeadspace Gas Chromatography with Flame Ionization Detection (HS-GC-FID)
This test will screen products for residual solvents like ethanol and butane, which can be harmful to human health. The analysis will provide the exact presence and concentration of each solvent detected. Screening for residual solvents is required only for hemp products made using a solvent-based extraction method. The amount of residual solvent left in extract must be shown to be below the allowable limit in milligrams, which varies for each applicable solvent.
Why would I need this test?
Hemp extract made using a solvent must be purged at the end of the extraction process. Trace amounts of the solvent used can remain even after purging, and high concentrations of certain solvents can be harmful if consumed. Screening products for residual solvents helps ensure consumer safety.
